Poetry Out Loud: My Poem

My poem When You Are Old by William Butler Yeats is a dramatic poem that conveys the transcendentalist idea of living life to the fullest. I chose this poem because i liked this message it had. Yeats says that when you are old you will be able to recall many experiences and people but even the person who loved you the most will disappear into a crowd of stars. he says this to encourage you to not miss opportunities.

To properly convey this dramatic piece i will need to show the emotion that Yeats had when he created it. in the first part of this poem Yeats tells the reader when he/she is old and gray to remember the times of their youth. in the second part of this poem Yeats speaks of how so many loved you for your beauty and one person truly loved you. in the third and last part of this poem he explains to the reader of how even this person has been forgotten in the long history of the readers future life.

in the first part of this poem i will speak with a slow calm tone to help the audience "open their books" to the idea. in the second part of the poem i will add more emotion and transition into the last part. in the last part i will end this emotion and slow down. i will pace my every word, i will murmur, and i will conclude on Yeats advice.
