What I'm Doing This Winter Break

over the break i will be having fun. i need this time to relax my brain. i have two large homework projects that will require at least two or three full days so the rest of my break i'm going to shut off my brain and do what i love to do most. i will be skateboarding and snowboarding.

the first weekend of break i plan to shred some gnar with some of my good friends including my friend Cosmo who is coming down from Seattle. Today, Friday i will be filming and skateboarding with my friends in Olympia. its the first time it's been dry in a while. i will "do it good." i'm also filming with my friends Goldy, Niko, Eugene, and david. we'll probably go to evergreen and SPSCC. Later on we'll skate parking garages downtown and at the hospital in Lacey.

I'm going to be snowboading a lot over break. i'm going to be in Vancouver, BC for Christmas and i might go to whistler. i've never been to whistler and i'm really looking forward to being there. i have a season pass at white pass ski resort and so i'll be there about 50% of the break. i'm going for the first time over break on Sunday and i'll be staying for a couple of nights later in the week.

This break is going to be great. i need to try to get my homework done as fast as possible so i can relax for the rest of the break. i'll spend time with my friends skateboarding and snowboarding at white pass. i will also visit my relatives in Canada for Christmas. i plan to have fun and "do it good."

Poetry Out Loud: My Poem

My poem When You Are Old by William Butler Yeats is a dramatic poem that conveys the transcendentalist idea of living life to the fullest. I chose this poem because i liked this message it had. Yeats says that when you are old you will be able to recall many experiences and people but even the person who loved you the most will disappear into a crowd of stars. he says this to encourage you to not miss opportunities.

To properly convey this dramatic piece i will need to show the emotion that Yeats had when he created it. in the first part of this poem Yeats tells the reader when he/she is old and gray to remember the times of their youth. in the second part of this poem Yeats speaks of how so many loved you for your beauty and one person truly loved you. in the third and last part of this poem he explains to the reader of how even this person has been forgotten in the long history of the readers future life.

in the first part of this poem i will speak with a slow calm tone to help the audience "open their books" to the idea. in the second part of the poem i will add more emotion and transition into the last part. in the last part i will end this emotion and slow down. i will pace my every word, i will murmur, and i will conclude on Yeats advice.

Poetry Out Loud

Part One:
1. Infelix
2. Susie Asado
3. Nude Descending a Staircase
4. Pleasures, When You Are Old

Part Two:
1. I liked susie Asado because it was strange and i liked When You Are Old because i connected with it the first time i read it.
2. I did not like Infelix. I found it to be somewhat boring.
3. My favorite of these poems is definitely When You Are Old and it is the poem i have decided to read to the class.
4. The first time i read this poem i understood everything it said as i read it. I feel the same way about life as the author does.

Part Three:
1. evidence of understanding because i already understand this poem. i don't think i will have trouble with my voice and articulation either. i normally only have trouble giving a speech if i am not prepared. when i must memorize a speech i often am able to convey the ideas with more accuracy.
2. I will need to work on my poem a lot to be able to present a powerful dramatic speech. i will also need to be careful not to use an improper tone when i make my speech. I will just need to read and memorize the poem as well as i can and i should be able to present it correctly.

Part Four:
1. Stanley Andrew Jackson
Writ on the Steps of Puerto Rican Harlem
by Gregory Corso
- hand gestures
- active
- dramatic
- understood poem
- clear voice

2. Jackson Hille
Forgetfulness
by Billy Collins
-easy to understand
-caught the attention of the audience
-funny

Part Five:
1. I will need to study my poem for some time to be able to convey the words of the author as he would have. i am not a great public speaker but i will try my hardest to have a good presentation. i am often more successful at memorizing speeches and presenting them rather than reading from a piece of paper. i hope to place among the top presenters to receive extra credit.
